new iPhone 4S

My daughter bought me a phone upgrade for Christmas - yes, I know Christmas is still about 6 weeks away. I just got the phone and got it activated. I have already returned my iPhone 3GS to factory settings and am going to sell it on eBay. It's a 32GB WHITE - the combination that is hard to beat. Now, I wish I would have gotten a while one when I upgraded. Darnnnnnnnnn!!  Oh well, I have to get back to work, but tonight I'm going to give this baby a spin!!

Knitting for the holidays

In August, my hubby and I trekked to the Knit Picks Warehouse Sale in Columbus, Ohio and bought all kinds of yarns in small amounts. There's enough yarn to make hats, scarves and mitts/gloves. (I prefer fingerless for driving and working)

Since we have the yarn, I've been working ahead this year and have been knitting holiday gifts for my family and friends. I'm trying to make enough quick knits so I can give one to each of my female relatives this Christmas. So far I have 4 or 5 done.  I need to make at least 15 for my friends & relatives and a few gifts for my kids. I'll just keep on knitting and hope to have enough by Christmas.

After I get a few more done, I'll post pictures.

Time Off

Well, somehow this has happened - I wrote about not having enough ME time and now my project has ended and I don't have my next assignment to start immediately. How about that? I have some ME time!

So, that means reading and knitting - oh yea, lunches with friends and a glass of wine!!

"ME" Time

I guess I'm spoiled........I was getting plenty of me time while I was recovering from my surgery. I stayed home mostly, wasn't able to help out very much, and I got to read, knit, relax a lot!

Now, I'm getting better and can get around more. And with the increased mobility comes more things to do. As I increase my activities, my ME time in decreased. I guess I should have realized it would happen, but I have to say I miss it.

I like just being by myself sometimes, it's good for the soul. New goal - continue to find that time. But still have time for everyone else. Hmmmm, it's a tall order but one I'm going to attempt.

Gotta go......have to do "some" thing for "some" body. Haha!

Wine and Veggie Lasagne and Knitting

These three things make up a PERFECT day!!

Today I was off work so I got to do 3 of my favorite things all in the same day. I was able to head to Fiberge, our LYS, to conduct website training. You see, a friend of mine helped me build a website for the good women at Fiberge. It was fun to do because the main requirements were to keep it "simple". I LOVE simple. Simple makes sense and it easy to achieve. Simple usually satisfies the needs of multiple people, in this case, the local knitting community. They're happy with the website and we are happy they are happy!!  Win-Win!!!

After a fun day, I headed home to make lasagne for us. Now, the big deal about this is since my surgery, I've done very little cooking. Well, let me be clear - I've done pretty much no cooking. My hubby has made all sorts of dishes, very successfully I might add. So, it's time for me to step up and prepare more meals.

I made a half meat and noodles/half veggies with a little meat lasagne. It's cooking right now and I hope it's as delicious as it smells. And lastly, I already opened the wine, started on that while I was cooking.

Oh - and after dinner - knit knit knit........:)

Road To Recovery

June 15th I had Achilles tendon repair surgery, it included replacing one bone in my ankle. My foot/leg was casted for 6 weeks, one pink and one yellow. I had to get around on a knee roller because I could put no weight on my left foot during this entire time. We had to make all sorts of special accommodations for me so I could have a semi-normal life:
  • a chair that was a little higher and had arm rests so I could easily get up and down.
  • my hubby added something similar to the toilet, so I could have hand grips to hold on to.
  • I had a special shower seat that extended out of the bathtub so my leg could easily stay out of the water.
  • borrowed a wheelchair which I used a couple of times.
  • had crutches which I used alot to go up and down a few steps.
  • had a walker which I barely used.
Then August 1st, I had surgery #2 - tissue manipulation of my toes, cleaned up a bunion and I went from cast to wrap. Still non-weight bearing for the next 2 months. I used the knee roller for about 15 weeks and I have to say it was a God-send. I don't know if I could have survived at work on crutches.

Now I'm 4 weeks into walking, first 2 were on my heel. It's getting better, still really swollen and now I hang with a cane just in case I need some "support" or "confidence".

I couldn't have made it through this whole ordeal without my husband's help. He drove me everywhere for 15 or so weeks, he lifted my knee roller in and out of the car, did the grocery shopping and cooking, washed all the laundry, ran all the errands. All I had to do was work, read, knit and concentrate on healing. Even though I didn't get to really enjoy the summer with the normal activities - I didn't have to worry about anything either. I love you honey!! Thanks!

Healing Right Along.........

Healing is move right along. I am feeling better and better every day. And on Monday, I go under the knife again....the Dr. is going to correct my toes to match the corrections he made to my ankle. I am anticipating a quick recovery and getting back to where I am now quickly.

Hope all is good..........

Double Arthroscopy

Surgery was almost 3 weeks ago. The first week was a week of figuring out how to get around on one leg, with the help of my knee roller. I was pretty crabby at first, I tried not to be, but I think part of it was the pain medication. I've learned to get up from a variety of seating on one foot, keeping my balance and not putting my cast on the ground. Recovery is 3 months - non weight bearing......only 9 weeks to go!!!  (yikes)

I've been to the Dr's office 2 times now. Xrays both times, pink cast first time, yellow cast second time, seen the Dr. and he's been very positive about the amount of correction and the healing process. He's going to do a quick procedure in a few weeks to tweak how my toes will hit the ground. He just wants to be sure everything is lined up correctly when I walk later.

Going back to work tomorrow. Hope that works out. Hubby has to drive me everywhere we go, hope his health stays good!!!

Happy Birthday America!

It's the most patriotic time of the year! I love July 4th. I love the parades, the fireworks, the grillouts, but most of all I love my oldest daughter's birthday is July 2nd. It has always made the holiday that much more special! When she was young, we would always incorporate a birthday party with the 4th grillout. She always got a cheesecake (her favorite) and everyone loved it! We have gone on canoe trips, camping, trips, parties, parades and all with a central theme: Happy Birthday America and Tamara!!

She will be 35 this year (OUCH! I'm getting older!!) and I have some of the best memories of my entire life around July 4th holidays. She was born on America's Bi-Centennial. She's my patriotic baby, I love you Tamara! Happy Birthday!

Mothers Day

For Mother's Day my hubby bought me a Kindle!! Much better than flowers and jewelry (I can't believe I said it's better than jewelry!). I am loving it and will write more about it.
