I'd rather be knitting

Yep, it's true...no matter what I'm doing all day long, I look forward to the time when I can sit down and knit. I feel so creative and fulfilled, more than with any other craft I've ever done, well, except maybe crocheting. I love to bead because I love jewelry. But I love to knit so I can create.

But I'm working, taking a minute to write this down.....Got up super early this morning, did some work, pulled some weeds, am doing more work....and will have to pull more weeds. But tonight - I will knit.......... Ah...

Two week visit is over....

Two weeks really goes fast when you're having a wonderful time and did we ever have a wonderful time !!  I was so blessed to have my daughter(-in-law) visit with Abigail. She is a great Mom, wife, daughter and friend.

We just got back from the airport, dropping them off to catch their plane. I know that Jake will be overjoyed to see his girls, but we were sad to see them go. But I did get to spend the most time I've spent with Abigail so far. She is an absolute delight. Here they are at the airport, and here's hoping / praying for a safe trip home.

Bye - hope to see you soon!! I love you!!  Now off to start my 2nd knit project, a blanket for Abigail :)

Another day another chance to knit

I'm home from work and ready to knit. I do have a few things to do first, like catch up on the day's news events, read a few emails and create a post. Then it's off to knit.

Michelle and Abi are leaving tomorrow. It's been a great 2 weeks and even though we aren't done visiting with them, I know that Jake will appreciate seeing them. I'll post some pictures of their visit after they're gone.

Monday's my birthday and I already got a present from my best friend!! Here's what I got:

I'm so excited!! I got handpainted wool yarn, 1 pr of needles and the instruction book to knit my first pair of sock!! I am NOT quite there in skill level yet, but I'm plugging away to get better and better all the time. This is a GREAT present from one CRAZY knitter to another!! THANKS BECKY!!!

I just bought a booklet with knit stitches and patterns and a book called Stitch 'N Bitch, the Knitter's Handbook. Debbie Stoller is the author and she is HILARIOUS!! The book and site are full of excellent knitting (and crocheting - see the Happy Hooker for crocheting info and patterns!!) information in such a real way. She is very entertaining and easy to learn from.

Well, I'm off to get my knit on!! I'm finishing up my first project, then will start a baby afghan in the booklet, project #5 called Baby Afghan.

Updated my ravelry.com stash

I found a box of yarn in the basement next to the crochet threads. I have been looking for it, but it wasn't so clearly marked from our move to Cincinnati from San Diego (almost 2 years ago). I was so excited to find it, even though it's just inexpensive acrylic yard. In fact, until just a couple weeks ago, I had no idea about the different kinds of yarn, what they are used for and how much I should really expect to pay.

Anyway, I was so excited to find this box of yarn, that I had dreams about it that night. CRAZY KNITTER DREAMS!! I dreamt that I knitted some amazing blankets, mittens, scarves and even a sweater - YIKES! It was CRAZY!! So, tonight, I photographed it and catalogued it in my Ravelry stash.

A shopping trip to end all shopping trips!!

Before I went on the yarn expedition - I took Michelle and Abi shopping at Kohl's. We all know that Kohl's has the best prices EVER! I had a 20% off already ridiculously low prices. And as always, I saved more than I spent off of retail prices. I paid 44% of retail!!

Abi has enough clothes to last until she grows to the next size. Which for her won't be long. She will be the best dressed baby in KC :) Plus, I surprised Michelle and picked up a couple outfits for her too. I loved it. It was the best blessing to have them here for a visit, get to spend so much time with her and then to take her shopping.

I'm a happy Grandma!

Adding to my STASH

Tonight we went to Joann's Fabrics and I purchased new knitting needles, Susan Bates, Silvalume, size 7 29" circulars for my next project: Abigail's Baby Afghan. I already have the yarn in my stash to make the blanket.

Then I purchased (very prematurely) sock yarn. My goal is to knit handmade socks for Christmas presents - NEXT YEAR!! But I bought some so I would have it in my stash, on sale, and not very expensive. Just in case I mess it up and then I haven't wasted too much money.

We also bought enough yarn for Roland to crochet a baby blanket. He's been watching me knit and wanting to make one too. He's an EXCELLENT crocheter so I'm so happy he's going to join in the fun. I'll post his project online as well.

I'm going to update my stash on Ravelry too because I found a box of worsted yard we used for blankets and scarves in 2005 while living in California. They were presents for us and the kids that year for Christmas.

I'm finishing up the blanket I was working on and am totally jazzed about my next project.

Proudest Grandma at Church

This sure has been a great weekend!!
Sunday Michelle and Abi went to church with us. And Beka, Brandon and Lyrikah met us there.  I was smiling ear to ear!!

My friends were so happy to meet the babies and Michelle. Most of them already know Beka and Brandon. And for me? I was sooooo happy, sooooo proud!!

All the beautiful Mom's, Dad and Babies :)

And of course, here's one of the Pic-of-the-day for Lyrikah, she is adorable!!

Knitting Project #1

My daughter wants my 1st knitting project for Lyrikah - I'm working on it now, finishing it up. And my pattern for Abigail's blanket came in the mail, so I can't wait to start it. I'll post more pics when I get the edging on - I'm crocheting it and haven't really started. I'm trying to find a pattern for a curly full edging to add.

More on it later.

Prepare Yourself - Life Happens :)

Here it is...the next phase of my life and I didn't even see it coming.

My oldest grandson's birthday is today - he's 17 years old! And yes, he seems more like one of my kids than a grandson. He's a wonderful young man. And I am so blessed to have him in my life.

Then comes Abigail. She's almost 5 months and she's visiting us with her Mom. It's been wonderful to have her in town. She is a delightful baby, always smiling and always happy!!

And here is our newest addition, little Lyrikah! She's only 2 weeks old and sooooooo sweet!!

I'll be spending as much of my time with my grandbabies as possible. And when we're not together, I'll be knitting for them and their parents.

Here's one of my first projects in years! It's a blanket, about 2/3 complete.
