760 KFMB AM - San Diego, CA - Talk Radio

760 KFMB AM - San Diego, CA - Talk Radio

Ok, Rick Roberts, the talk radio show host here in San Diego who often fills in for Michael Savage, blogged this article from March 1st, 2006. I WANT MY COUNTRY BACK!!

Look, living in San Diego, illegal immigration is a REAL issue. I know it's real everywhere, but it's even MORE REAL in California. Afterall, the illegals are everywhere, the tunnels are about 40 miles from my house and it's all eveyrone is talking about.

How do I feel? Well, I knew this was a problem in Cincinnati. There were illegals everywhere, working in the housing construction area, restaurants, factories and so on. And in those cases it wasn't because the business owners couldn't find workers, it was because of the type of American workers that were attracted to that type of work were heavy drinkers, druggies and lower class types, so they missed alot of work. The owners couldn't afford for the laborers to miss work, so better to hire illegals that would show up for work than to hire Americans that were "sluffs".

So now I live here in San Diego and it's totally different. In Ohio, they deported them, here, they hire them, they protest in the streets to give them rights, they risk everything to support these folks and I am not happy about it!

I WANT MY COUNTRY BACK!!

And Rick Roberts only said it better than that!! Please read his blog and do everything you can to get our Country Back!!

May have to live here FOREVER!!

I could think of worse places :)

We went to a kidney education class last night to learn more about his kidney disease and treatment options. The options are few, but at least he has options. One ties him down pretty much, one just takes diligence to do on your own and the other is a transplant, which we can only hope for since I'm not a donor match - :( But one of the issues they brought up is insurance and once you start on the "treatment" you can't change insurance because you become "uninsurable". So, that really could affect our plans to move to Phoenix for retirement. Somewhere where our money will go further.

So, if he won't be able to leave southern CA, then the sticker shock I wrote about yesterday really will become a reality and fast. I mean, I have to really learn to budget my money, live on less and consider a home based business or something for fun stuff. Living here long-term will mean higher everything: groceries, gas, housing, taxes BUT it also means: no cost for his treatment, it's included in his insurance, he has insurance for life no matter what, possible early medical retirement so he can at least enjoy life, great weather, so we're not stuck in winter at least, mountains, ocean, great places to ride a motorcycle, and we'll have each other.

So all in all, we won't have a ton of money to retire on like I was hoping, I will probably have to work a little longer than I was hoping, I'm praying we'll find a house that we can really afford and I guess let's just hope for the best. We can't control tomorrow, we can plan for it and we are, so we just have to walk through it every day and make the best choices and do our best for each other.

So far, so good. But he's right, we'd rather be out of here when we retire. So maybe it will work out that we can, we'll find out. In the meantime, gotta go to work!

House Hunting in San Diego

STICKER SHOCK TO THE EXTREME!!

Welcome to Southern California! The houses are small, cute, spanish, with tiny yards, very close to your neighbors and some houses actually touch the neighbors' house. Most houses are newer houses and it's rare to find a house older than the 70's. I did find one to look at that was from the 30's. I can imagine the yard is decent and the house is probably very cool.

I've also learned that it's not the house that is so expensive, it's merely buying the land. I priced a double wide mobile home and it was $300,000 because it included the land. Now, I am not sure about you, but it doesn't take much land for a double wide to call home, and a double wide in Cincinnati would run you about $80K-100K so now you see what I'm up against!

We're going to keep our eye out. Hoping the housing market cools enough for us to get a great deal. Or maybe we can find a distressed seller or a foreclosed property. I'm just hoping, I just can't imagine making $2200/month house payments!! Wow! Cincinnati spoiled me!

Frustration caused by adding a banner....

html issue
If you've been reading my blog, you know that I am on a FACES PROJECT campaign!! In an effort to support Steve's project, I have tried very hard to add a banner on my sidebar on my blog. Some unknown technical issue has occured and I have NO FREAKIN' CLUE WTF IS GOING ON!!

I have tried everything, I think I might have found a bug in Blogger!! OR maybe even a bug in the life of an html programmer. Sometimes things just fucking happen and you can't control them. To me, it's illogical and frustrating!! Things have to make sense. Technology works and has to work the same way all the time. AAAAaaaaaaaggggghhhhhhhh!

So let's trick technology and the frustration that I feel. Sign up the for project, send your picture in, he's on vacation for spring break, let's really surprise him and bombard him with his faces!! I'm sending in my kids' pics to help! Let's help him get this done!!

TGIF!!

I love Fridays!

It's been a long week, lots going on at work and now that I've been here for 6 weeeks, I can honestly say I'm totally entrenched and my plate is full. I'm taking a quick lunch break and eating my yogurt & blueberries for lunch today, writing a quick blurb.

Even though it's been a busy week, I am proud of all the work I accomplished and felt like I contributed to the team. I hope to make an impact on every group that I work with on projects. As a facilitator, it's my responsibility to help them be successful! I see their successes as mine. I guess that's the "good manager" in me.

Beka will be moving out here very soon, so I'm helping with that effort. I'm going to get her boxes out here and help her get a good start on life. I especially want my children to be successful!! I have a vested interest in their success.

So, it seems that the theme today is success. I can finally say that I am successful at love. It's been a long haul, I've tried to be open to different types of guys, but as we all know, that wasn't the way to go. Then when I was finally wising up and not just giving my heart to anyone, who comes back to me!! My true love! I'm so happy. In fact, I've never been so happy before. So I would say this is a HUGE success for me.

Successful in love, in parenting, in my career, I'd say that's pretty good. Now, back on my diet and I'll be successful at that - because I don't like to fail - Then I'll pretty much have it all. :) Wow! It's great to be here right now!!

Have a great weekend. And enjoy your Friday :)

Staying in Touch

Heavenly Thoughts

sometimes it's a little difficult to stay in touch with all of my old friends in Cincinnati. I have quite a lot and I find that trying to write individual emails does not work. Especially now that I'm working fulltime and am trying to come home and enjoy some time with my honey.

Some of my other friends send out "newsletters" which could actually work as a good way to keep in touch, except they are so "newsy" and seem impersonal. Then there's the phone and there's just not enough time to call everyone. I would have to have a scheduled day and time to reach everyone and it just wouldn't work with the time zones and all. Besides, I'd be on the phone every morning and every afternoon and I have to work!

So I try to use my blog as a way for my friends to keep up with what I'm doing. I would say it's only interesting to those people and when I find someone reading it that isn't a friend of mine, I wonder what they find so interesting to read.

My blog is not political, although I've considered changing to that format. Realistically, I live in San Diego County, one of the epicenters of the immigration reform argument and more than likely the most affected county. I could write about technology, I work in a cutting-edge technology field and some might find it interesting to read about DRM and so on. I could write about gardening because I have managed to get to continue the gardens even though I only have a patio.

I could write about a host of things - tv shows, talk-radio that I listen to, wine, traffic in So. California, San Diego specifically or movies. But instead I choose to write about my life - as boring as it is to some, it might be interesting to others.

At the same time, I would like to build the readership of my blog. In order to do that, I have to tear myself away from the "personal" and choose something that is very interesting to me to blog about and see if I get any attention.

So here's where you come in.....if there are any "you's". If you read this blog regularly, please comment below. Tell me if you think a personal newsletter would be best to send out to my friends and how often: quarterly, bi-annually, annually AND which topic would best be served by this forum OR keep things the way they are and keep it personal and I'll continue to wonder if anyone is reading this regularly.

thanks for your input................
and in the words of my favorite singer, Ozzy, "I love you all"

Rain, rain go away!!

I've not been living here very long. In fact, it's only been a matter of weeks but all I've seen is crappy weather! I am wondering if the wonderful southern California weather is a myth or not. There have been beautiful days, warm, sunny, 70's, blue skies and wonderful. Then there's been lots of days like today - gray, yucky, windy and torrential rains. I hope it clears up.
